Former President George H. W. Bush standing alongside his wife Barbara in front of their Tanglewood area home, announced their support for long time friend Kay Bailey Hutchison.

“To paraphrase an old song, she was a Lone Star Republican before it was cool to be a republican in Texas. But his election is about the future and not the past. And we have no doubt that Kay has the right vision and certainly the right values to help Texas build an even better tomorrow.”

President Bush says their relationship with Hutchison goes back a long way. He says there was never any question who they would support in this race.

“Not because we oppose Rick Perry, who’s been considered of Barbara and me and who we’ve supported in the past frankly, but because of our unbridled belief in Kay. And we told Kay a long time ago that we would endorse her for governor and today we are very happy to have a chance to fulfill that commitment.”

Senator Hutchison says she was a news reporter and George Bush was a Republican Party county Chairman when they first met many years ago.

“I am very honored. I’m humbled that two of the people I love the most and two of the people who are most loved by Texans would endorse me today. It is a very special time.”

Hutchison currently trails Rick Perry in the polls.
