DPS says it will end the services provided by the Compliance Office at the end of the month.

“And that’s two primary services. One will be to reinstate their driver license; the other is to get a copy of their driver record, which of course a lot of people need for court dates.”

DPS’s Tom Vinger says beginning in November those two services will only be done online at texasonline-dot-com or by mail. He says this is really nothing new for DPS.

“Most of the state already works it this way, and the benefit is it will free up additional people to help reduce wait times at driver license offices.”

The Gessner office was one of only four in Texas that provided the walk-in reinstatement and driver record service.

Vinger the processing time for both services is seven to ten business days and that drivers should also keep a copy of any paperwork they have submitted.

He says more DPS employees will now be available to serve those getting or renewing a driver license.
