HFD Continues Search for Arsonist

The Houston Fire Department is investigating another fire in the Heights today. They’re trying to determine if it’s connected to a string of arson cases in the area. Laurie Johnson has more.

The fire started around 5am in a garage apartment on 11th Street in the Heights.

Houston firefighters quickly put out the fire and arson investigators are working to determine if its connected to the previous eight fires on nearby streets.

HFD Assistant Chief Adrian Trevino says although no one has been hurt, the arsonist is taking risks.

“This is a very dangerous situation. Whoever it is, the arsonist is no longer taking life into consideration because he is setting occupied structures, homes, on fire.”

Houston Firefighters will be in the Heights area tomorrow, talking to residents about protecting their property and reminding people to be on the lookout for unusual activity.

Crime Stoppers has also offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case.
