The Environment Texas report says the state is on track to spend 4-trillion dollars on oil, coal and other fossil fuels by 20-30. Reason enough says Matthew Tejada of GHASP for Texas to move more forcefully toward renewable energy. He says the problem is that to many area politicians still cling to 20th notions about energy.
“Houston and Texas above any other state and above almost any other region in the world could and should be a leader in this. We have more engineers, more manpower, more no how of the energy business than any where else in the world.”
Tejada says our leaders would rather debate than act.
For Eric Goodie of the Houston Area Urban League, this report is as much about the economy as it is about the environment. He says the economy is in transition and being fully for or against renewables or fossil fuels is counterproductive.
“Green collar jobs are very real and I think being on the front end will allow our clients to have a better opportunity to receive those jobs than waiting until things fully integrate into the market.”
