Originally, the Houston Health Department and Houston Independent School District closed Travis Elementary, in the Heights neighborhood, after 12 students tested positive for swine flu. Over the past week that number has risen to 24. More than 200 students missed school last week — some with regular flu. HISD officials say the school will remain closed through the end of the school year and students will not have to make up the missed days. No other schools in HISD have experienced serious problems with the flu.
