Property Taxes Are Due By Monday

If you haven’t paid your property taxes for 2008 the deadline to avoid extra charges is near. Rod Rice reports.

Leo Vasquez is Harris County’s Tax Assessor/Collector.

“Well if you have not paid by February 2nd the penalty becomes a 7% penalty on the unpaid balance. So, it really behooves you to pay on time.”

The deadline is usually January 31st, but because that’s on a week-end this year you get a couple extra days according to pay the bill.  To give you even a bit more time the tax office will extend its hours.

“The downtown Houston branch at 1001 Preston will remain open until 6PM on both Friday the 30th and Monday the 2nd.”

You can also pay at all branch offices and at the Appraisal District at 13013 North Freeway. All those office will open and close at their normal hours.

There is a 2.1% fee on all credit card payments and a $3.95 fee for debit card and e-check payments.
