Owing Child Support is Not A Good Idea in Precinct-6

A round up early this morning in Precinct-6 of people
who owe child support. Rod Rice reports the on going effort is a collaboration between the precinct and the Texas Attorney General’s Child Support Division.

The level of support that the Child Support Division gets from local jurisdictions varies across the county and the state. Early this morning Pricinct-6 deputy constables armed with 65 warrants picked-up 10 people for not paying their required child support payments.  For Constable Victor Trevino it’s the right thing to do.

“Our children should not be compromised because two grown ups are having differences and are not willing to put that aside and make sure the children are taken care of.”

Trevino says neither he nor the state wants to arrest someone. It is better to have them working and making regular payments. He says there is no reason to let it get to this point.

“For people that are having difficulties: whether it’s the economy, they lost their job, medical issues; the courts will work with you. All you have to do t let them know.”

He says that is not the case with those picked up so far.  And he sees the early an morning wake-up arrest as a favor.

“If we find out where you’re working at we’ll arrest you there, handcuff you and walk you through all your fellow workers.”

The bottom line for Trevino is for parents to put aside their petty differences and think of the well being of their kids.
