Buffalo Soliders Musuem Finds New Home

The Buffalo Soldiers Museum is moving to a new home. The largest collection of African-American military memorabelia will soon be housed in a historic military building near the museum district.

Museum founder Captain Paul Matthew says during the next year they will be working on moving into the Light Guard Armory building on Caroline. The Light Guard was a whites-only unit formed during the Civil War.

“It means that we now have a building that compliments our collection, secondly it means that we are taking an historic building and preserving it and it’s a military building so we are hitting on all cylinders.”

They’ll also be looking to the future. All the renovations, while preserving history, will be done with energy efficiency and conservation in mind. After the move, the building on Southmore will be sold. The museum is in the midst of a four million dollar capital campaign.
