Early Voting Begins Tuesday

Early voting for the Primary Election begins tomorrow and will run through the end of the month.

Applications to vote by mail are fifty percent higher than the last four election cycles. Harris County Clerk Beverly Kaufman says they anticipate this year to be a record turn out.

“I expect that the turn out in the two parties here will be generated for different reasons. I expect an unusually high turn out on the Democratic Primary generated primarily because of the Presidential election and we’re seeing alot of campaigning and alot of excitment going on. And I still think we’re going to have a higher turn out in the Republican Primary than we had four years ago generated more by local contest than perhaps the Presidential election.”

New voting locations and additional voting machines are being placed to accommodate the larger crowds.

“So when we looked at our initial allocations for voting machines, even anticipating a much higher turn out than the past, we still upped the number of machines that we are putting out there because we would rather have excessive equipment than inadequate number of machines on election day. It just makes it better for everybody”
