The No Child Left Behind legislation is up for re-authorization in Congress. A number of events are being held nationwide to allow for public input including one in Houston.
A report will be delivered to lawmakers later this spring. Houston A Plus Challenge is working with other groups to gather public input. Executive Director Michele Pola says feedback from the community shows support for an accountability system, but also a need for changes.
“Some of the areas we’re touching on specifically … community engagement and intervention for low performing schools.”
Pola says there are ideas on how to help low performing schools.
“Early interventions … providing support … looking at local opportunities … turning the schools around.”
The meeting is being held tomorrow evening at Reagan High School.
