Former House Majority Leader Tom Delay is denouncing new charges against him. An Austin grand jury re-indicted Delay for violation of state election laws, adding money laundering charges.

The new indictment, which supercedes last week’s, was handed up by a new grand jury seated Monday, adding two charges of money laundering. Defense attorney Dick DeGuerin says no corporate money went to any Texas candidates.

DeGuerin asked a judge to throw out that indictment, arguing it was based on a statute that didn’t take effect until a year after the alleged acts.

DeGuerin says the new indictment is an effort to correct what he describes as an embarrassingly flawed indictment against DeLay.

District Attorney Ronnie Earle alleges a DeLay-founded committee raised corporate money to influence the 2002 legislative races in violation of state law. Ed Mayberry, Houston Public Radio News.
