Children are going back to school today in the Houston Independent School District, and hurricane Rita will be a big topic in the classrooms.

At Will Rogers Elementary School about 650 students will resume classes with questions about Hurricane Rita swirling in their minds. School Principal Ronald Dominy says the campus is ready to handle any questions or fears that students may express.

Teachers will also address the hurricane in their classrooms. Dominy says some students will be encouraged to write a paragraph about their experiences over the weekend. Or they could draw a picture or have a chance to publicly speak about the storm.

Dominy says the teachers will be sensitive to the subject and looking for opportunities to talk about the hurricane and things the children may have gone through. He thinks it will be a subject of classroom discussion throughout the week.

Students in HISD missed four days of classes because of Hurricane Rita and Dominy says it will help them to return to school and a sense of a normal routine.
