Parents of Hyde Elementary School students were sent a letter on Thursday, advising them that the school would be closed Friday after more than 100 people were ill with an apparent gastrointestinal illness.
The letter, which was signed by Hyde's principal Suzi Saunders, said approximately 130 students and staff fell ill with symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain. It also said that recovery seemed to take anywhere between one to three days.
"We are working closely with the Galveston County Health Department which agrees with this closure is in the best interest of students and staff to allow Clear Creek ISD clean the building in accordance with Centers for Disease Control guidelines."
Parents were allowed to check their children out early on Thursday.
The school will be deep-cleaned on Friday and classes are expected to resume on Monday.
