City of Houston Sewers Drainage WaterWater quality can be a challenge no matter where you live. In the city of Houston, aging sewer pipes could lead to higher water bills for many Houstonians. Outside of town, in more rural areas, some use private wells. But that well water isn’t regulated or routinely tested.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we explore water quality issues for both urban and rural areas in and around Greater Houston.

First, Michael Hagerty talks with the Houston Chronicle’s Mike Morris about the state of the city’s sewers. Then, Maggie Martin chats with Dr. Jean Brender, professor emeritus of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at Texas A&M University School of Public Health, about a study suggesting a link between certain chemicals in drinking water and birth defects. And we discuss issues for owners of private water wells with Dr. Stephanie Glenn, from the Houston Advanced Research Center, who specializes in ecology and hydrology.
