Laurie Johnson

Executive Director of Content Operations

As Executive Director of Content Operations, Laurie Johnson-Ramirez leads the strategic vision and initiatives for News, Digital, Radio Operations and Talk Shows on all of Houston Public Media’s platforms. She brings 20 years of experience in journalism and content development to the role. Her focus is on reaching new audiences, along with long-time public media fans, to deliver local shows and stories that inform, educate, and inspire.

Prior to serving as Executive Director of Content Operations, Ramirez led Houston Public Media’s newsroom as News Director. During her tenure, she restructured the news department to focus on two priority areas of breaking news and long-form investigative reporting. She added a team of enterprise and investigative reporters and a new executive producer. She also brought renewed vigor to daily breaking news coverage, adding newscast producers and expanding the number of daily locally-produced newscasts from 12 to 21.

Ramirez is a native Houstonian and a graduate of the University of Houston.
