Case in point: on July 23, 2016, the Houston Symphony will host a performance called Distant Worlds, featuring the music of the Final Fantasy video game series.

Recently, Dacia Clay of Houston Public Media's Classical Classroom podcast talked with Lesley Sabol of the Houston Symphony and Joshua Zinn of Houston Public Media about the evolution of video game music. But first, Joshua gives us some background on the Final Fantasy series.
