You might be familiar with Houston-based rapper Bun B as a member of the group UGK. But you might not know he’s also a distinguished lecturer at Rice University, co-teaching a course examining the relationship between religion and hip-hop.

Starting in a few weeks, Religion and Hip-Hop Culture will be offered as a free online class. It’s a course that’s been traditionally offered in the classroom but has grown to be so popular that it’s going to be offered online.

Bun B teaches the class with Anthony Pinn, a professor of humanities and religious studies at Rice. Bun B and Professor Pinn spoke with Houston Matters’ Maggie Martin about the class and when they began collaborating together about four years ago.
