Zola Jesus, real name: Nika Roza Danilova is a dark pop musician who has earned herself an impressive art pedigree, including a live performance at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2011.

Now, with the release of her fifth studio album, her sound is moving more mainstream and she’ll get a chance to see how Houston fans react on Feb. 2 at Fitzgerald’s.

Houston Matters’ Paige Phelps spoke with the artist about her background, her influences, and what she thinks of the label, “goth.”
