This past spring, Houston writer David Theis attended a concert by jazz pianist — and Houston native — Jason Moran. Moran, like many jazz musicians educated in Houston, left to pursue a career in New York, and that left Theis wondering why isn’t there more jazz in Houston?

So Theis, editor of Literary Houston and himself a jazz fan, went in search of the Houston jazz scene and wrote an article on what he found for the August issue of Houstonia Magazine.

He talks with Houston Matters’ Michael Hagerty.
