Grammy Award-winning vocalist Steve Tyrell has spent over four decades in the music business, achieving success as a performer, producer, songwriter and music supervisor.

Tyrell has produced hits for Grammy-winning Artists ranging from Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville, to Rod Stewart and Diana Ross. Steve himself has sold hundreds of thousands of albums and gained a passionate following all over the world. And he’s a Houston native, born right here in the Fifth Ward, an area that spawned other musicians like Joe Sample and the Geto Boys.

Tyrell’s back home for a special performance tonight at Jones Hall with the Houston Symphony, singer and pianist Diane Schuur, songwriter Judith Hill and trumpeter Lew Soloff. Tyrell sat down with Houston Matters’ Edel Howlin to talk about his career and excitement about being home.
