It’s a fictional story of how a young woman was able to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II by marrying an American Army doctor and coming to America as a war bride.

Houston Matters producer Maggie Martin sat down with Wells to talk about her book, which asks “Is everything is fair in love and war? Or is nothing fair in either?

Central in the the book is the War Brides Act, which allowed more than 100,000 brides of U.S. servicemen to come to the United States.
