Kevin Kwan Book Covers Crazy Rich Asians China Rich GirlfriendAuthor Kevin Kwan spent his formative years in Houston at a time when he was one of just a few students of Asian descent at his high school in Clear Lake.

In recent years, he’s watched with fascination as economic growth in countries like China has created a new class of uber rich, referred to there as “China rich.” That fascination drove him to write the novel Crazy Rich Asians and now its sequel China Rich Girlfriend, which both chronicle the lives and problems of Asia’s new and old money.

Kwan tells Houston Matters’ Michael Hagerty about his inspiration for the books.
