Writer and reporter Wes Ferguson decided to better get to know a landmark he’d grown up around — East Texas’ Sabine River. To do so, he took along his friend and photographer, Jacob Croft Botter, and boated the length of the Sabine all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

Their book, which chronicles the interesting people and places they saw along the way, is called Running the River: Secrets of the Sabine.

Ferguson talks with Houston Matters’ Craig Cohen.
