In October of 2002, 28-year-old David MacLean found himself at a train station in India with no idea of who he was or why he was there. After a series of medical tests, MacLean would learn that his episode of amnesia was caused by an antimalarial drug, called Lariam. These are just a few discoveries MacLean makes as he tries to rebuild his life.

He’ll be in Houston this week to talk about his experience in his new book, ‘The Answer to the Riddle is Me: A Memoir of Amnesia.’ Houston Matters’ Maggie Martin recently sat down with MacLean to talk about the difficulties of losing his memory and why the drug that was supposed to help him, hurt him instead.
