Café Bustelo’s Pop-Up Coffee Shop Lands In Montrose

The fluorescent yellow café is only open through May.

The cafe officially opened to the public on Tuesday, March 12.

In a well-planned public relations move, Café Bustelo has taken over an empty lot in Montrose with a bright yellow pop-up coffee shop that's hard to miss.

Built using a movable shipping container, the café will travel to other cities in the U.S. after its stint in Houston.

Houston was chosen as the first stop because of its diversity, according to senior brand manager Eduardo Merino.

"The area of Montrose in Houston is an area that’s so vibrant and also full of diversity in every corner, and so we wanted to be part of that diversity," he said. "We want to pop up wherever there’s an open space — try to make sure that we can brighten up the location."

The New York-based coffee brand specializes in Latin-style food and drink. On the pop-up’s menu are beverages such as cafecito, colada and café con leche, alongside food like empanadas and pastelitos.

Café Bustelo will also host live performances with the proceeds going to the local organizations involved.

Located at 3615 Montrose Boulevard, the café will be open daily through May 25, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
