Film composer Hans Zimmer has been the sound of some of Hollywood's biggest hits over the past three decades, from The Lion King, to Gladiator, to Pirates of the Caribbean, and most of the films directed by Christopher Nolan.

And while most of this music gets heard in the theater, it was something of a surprise when he showed up at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April of this year, delighting the attendees with a montage of his most iconic scores with a massive ensemble of musicians.

That was just the first of many performances of Hans Zimmer Live, which is currently touring around the world with a show July 14, 2017 at Smart Financial Center.

Ahead of that concert, Houston Matters producer Joshua Zinn spoke with Zimmer about some of his memorable experiences and what spurred him to create this special live performance of his music.
