Elias String Quartet

On the latest Encore Houston, we feature the Elias String Quartet as presented by Da Camera! The performance only features two works, both with quite a bit of heft in the string quartet repertoire. Beethoven’s Quartetto Serioso is the last of his middle period quartets, with a brooding intensity throughout until the final moments of the entire piece. Unlike Beethoven, Brahms only wrote a small handful of quartets, and the one featured on this program is one of two that he wrote during the same time period, incorporating a dramatic, lyrical quality.

  • LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN, String Quartet No. 11 in F minor, "Serioso"
  • JOHANNES BRAHMS, String Quartet No. 2 in A minor
  • Encore: TRADITIONAL, Da Day Dawn
  • Encore: DONALD SHAW, Calum’s Road
  • Performance date: 1/31/2017
  • Originally aired: 7/8/2017
