A retelling of the Christmas story by American composer Thomas Juneau. This recording is from the world premier of the work, called “The Nativity,” and given jointly by ManCorps and ManChoir, two choruses open to students from all disciplines at University of Houston.

Alfred Reed: Russian Christmas Music

Alfred Reed’s work for symphonic band, titled “Russian Christmas Music” has an interesting history; it was commissioned for a concert promoting American-Russian cooporation during World War II, after the successful invasion of the Allied forces. Reed, an American composer, thus drew on the sororities and rhythms of the Eastern Orthodox Church music, as well as utilizing Russian folk music, including an authentic 16th century Christmas Carol called, “Carol of the Little Russian Children.”
