"We have actually tried to incorporate — and I say ‘tried' — dance and movement ourselves, as the musicians... so it's kind of nice for us this time around to get to move to the sideline a little bit and let real, professional dancers take the stage," says WindSync flautist Garrett Hudson about their upcoming concert with the Vitacca Dance Project.

Simple Gifts featuring The Nutcracker is the name of their Sunday concert at the Hobby Center, with Aaron Copland's famous version of "Simple Gifts" from Appalachian Spring, music by Respighi, Adam Schoenberg, and of course, excerpts from Tchaikovsky's music to The Nutcracker.

"I think the story is just so captivating... it's like a dream, and all the character pieces are so charming..." says executive director and horn player Anni Hochhalter about the ballet's enduring popularity.

Hear my full conversation with Anni and Garrett above where we talk about their work with the Vitacca Dance Project, the process behind their commissions, and their upcoming Houston concerts for next year!

Simple Gifts featuring The Nutcracker is this Sunday, December 4th at 3:30 PM at the Hobby Center.
