KINETIC, Houston's dynamic and only conductorless ensemble, has announced their second season, called PARTNERSHIP. Natalie Lin, the founder and leader of KINETIC, describes the upcoming season as an exercise in "collaboration between artists," during which they will be joined by soloists, work directly with composers, and even incorporate young student musicians into the ensemble. The concept of collaboration, though, is nothing new to this group; from their rehearsal process to their performances, musicians and audience members alike are involved. Of their performances, Max Geissler (cellist and project manager), describes the "palpable sense of connectivity" that emerges with live chamber music. Their rehearsals, meanwhile, are lovingly characterized as "creative chaos," during which each member contributes with ideas, physical gestures, and, of course, their passion for the music they are playing.
In the audio above, HPM’s Anya Wilkening chats with Ms. Lin and Mr. Geissler for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the ensemble and an exclusive preview of KINETIC's upcoming season.
