Talking Love And Murder With John Rapson And Kevin Massey

Ernie Manouse talks with two of the stars of the Tony Award-winning musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, now in-production at Theatre Under the Stars.

“If you could kill me, how would you do it?” might be a bizarre question to ask upon first meeting someone (or really, just in general), but for Kevin Massey it’s pretty much standard fare due to his role as Monty Navarro in A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, currently running at Theatre Under the Stars.

The show, about a young aristocrat who murderously pursues an inheritance (with several older relatives in his way played by John Rapson), was the recipient of four Tony Awards in 2014 for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and Best Costume Design. Indeed, Massey even admits that the show’s success in this area is likely what spurred its success as a touring production.

Houston Public Media’s Ernie Manouse talks with Kevin Massey and John Rapson about the show and their various approaches to the roles they play. A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder runs at Theatre Under the Stars now through Sunday, May 15th.
