Collective creativity often yields dramatic results. FrenetiCore Dance has partnered with some other very creative people to present The Rite of Summer and Film Noir this August 1st, 2015 at the Cullen Theater on the University of Houston campus. Artistic Director Rebecca French has joined forces with composer Chris Becker, costume designer Ashley Horn, and artists Grace Rodriguez and Varina Rush to create this multimedia remix of Stravinsky’s epic The Rite of Spring. French has chosen natural and even familiar animal movements in her choreographic interpretation of Stravinsky’s timeless score. For composer and performer Andrew Carnavas’ original piece Film Noir, she has opted for slinky, parallel, Fosse-esque choreography.

Mr. Becker uses The Rite of Spring as the framework for his composition and adds a variety of interesting sounds from animals and scratchy vinyl recordings to modern virtual instruments. The Rite of Summer is a celebration of nature and animals, not pagan sacrifice, however French and Becker hope to provoke a similar response that Stravinsky and Nijinsky received in Paris, 1913.
