Local songwriting duo Merel & Tony stopped by Houston Public Media’s Geary Studio to record the original songs “Some Planes” and “Your Possession.” Merel Van Dijk hails from the Netherlands, and Tony Barilla has roots in Houston, though he travels regularly. Van Dijk and Barilla met while working for a theater group in the Netherlands, and their music combines vintage European impressions with contemporary themes and anxieties. In fact, all the musicians involved have worked with theatrical companies, including the Houston groups Infernal Bridegroom ProductionsCatastrophic Theater and Bootown.
