For his faculty recital September 14th in the UH Moores Opera House, violist Lawrence Wheeler has enlisted the help of his son Erik, a cello student at Rice University’s Shepherd School, to join him for a performance of an early work by Beethoven, the Duet for Viola and Cello in E-flat Major, WoO 32, given the affectionate name “With Two Eyeglasses Obbligato” by the composer.

The Wheelers will be joined in the recital by two other related musicians, husband and wife Thomas, piano, and Andrea (mezzo soprano) Jaber. Together they’ll perform a viola sonata and a set of songs by Brahms.

Larry and Erik join Houston Public Media’s St.John Flynn in the Geary Studio to play the Beethoven duet featured on Sunday’s recital and to talk about playing together as father and son.

Lawrence Wheeler’s faculty recital is Sunday, September 14th, 2:30PM, in the Moores Opera House on the UH campus.
