Slideshow: Smither Park Revisited

The Arts InSight Team visits The Orange Show’s Smither Park in Houston’s East End.

On May 19, Arts InSight turned their camera on Smither Park – next door to The Orange Show  – to tape an upcoming episode of our local arts show.

The park, destined to become a cultural asset in the underserved East End area of Houston, will be an artistic venue for leisure-time activity as well as the ceremonies of life such as weddings, picnics, performances and meditation.

Once completed, this whimsical, fanciful park will feature an amphitheater, memory wall, meditation area, tunnels, swings and an interactive sculpture, each adorned with elaborate mosaic work created entirely out of recycled and found materials and hand-placed by local artists.

To learn more about the park and other interesting arts ventures both within the Houston area and across the country, watch Arts InSight every Thursday night at 7 p.m. on Houston Public Media TV 8.
