Composer Martin Quiroga On New Work For The AURA Ensemble

MusicLab intern Daniel Webbon sat down with University of Houston’s Moores School of Music alumnus Martin Quiroga to discuss his latest work, Subluxation #DislocatedShoulder. Martin’s composition will be performed by the AURA Contemporary Ensemble on April 14th, at 7:30pm in the Moores Opera House.

Martin received his BA in music composition for the University of Houston and recently won the Sarofim contest, the prize for which was to write an original piece for AURA. In their interview, Martin and Daniel listen to and discuss one of his other works, Pastiche-ios!, which he wrote for the Oregon Bach Festival Composer Symposium in summer 2013. Martin also reveals his fondness for the #hashtag and weird sounds on the cello.

Martin’s composition will appear alongside a program of pieces by 20th century composers as well as works by Cynthia Woods Mitchel artist in residence Daniel Bernard Roumain. Tickets an information at
