This weekend, the University of Houston Dance Ensemble presents its spring showcase, “Ensemble Dance Works.”

It’s a program of contemporary choreography by UH Dance Faculty and other Houston-based professional choreographers, including Teresa Chapman, Jackie Nalett, Melissa Noble, Karen Stokes, Toni Valle, Jennifer Wood and Rebecca Valls.

With movement-based works as well as pieces inspired by pink flamingos, a 12th century nun and the insanity of motherhood, the program features “a range of visual stimuli and emotions … you get to laugh and then you get to stop and think, so there will be something for everyone,” says UH faculty choreographer, Jackie Nalett.

Houston Public Media’s Catherine Lu sat down with Ms. Nalett and with fellow choreographer and UH colleague, Rebecca Valls, for a preview of the show.

Performances are Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 at 7:30pm and Sunday, March 30 at 1:30pm at the Lindall Finley Wortham Theatre at the University of Houston.
