The Met’s first new production of Massenet’s Werther in more than 40 years features star tenor Jonas Kaufmann singing the title role of the tortured, love-sick poet, and French mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch making her Met debut as Charlotte, the object of Werther’s unrequited love.

Now in its eighth season, The Met: Live in HD series is seen in movie theaters in 64 countries around the world, including 747 venues in the U.S.

Mezzo-soprano Sophie Koch talks with Houston Public Media’s St.John Flynn about her Met debut, the Live in HD experience, and sharing the stage with the world’s “hottest” tenor.

The Met live broadcast of Werther begins Saturday at noon on Houston Public Media Classical 91.7. The Live in HD transmission begins 5 minutes earlier at 11:55AM and will be hosted by Patricia Racette.
