Navidad Latina: Celebrating the Holiday Music and Traditions of Latin America and Spain

The Foundation for Modern Music presents the 3rd annual "Navidad Latina: Celebrating the Holiday Music and Traditions of Latin America and Spain" Thursday evening at the MFAH. FMM artistic director Raul Orlando Edwards talks about the event with St.John Flynn.

Unlike holiday celebrations in the United States, which are typically indoors and somewhat intimate, Latin and Spanish celebrations are often outdoors, filled with high-energy, rhythm-infused, danceable music—a reflection of the rich amalgamation of heritages in these cultures. “Navidad Latina” features an ensemble of artists from Cuba, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, the United States, and Venezuela.

Included in the event are special performances by Solero Flamenco (cante, toque y baile); Jorge Orta ‘Cro Cro’ (percussion); Paul Boyd and Alejandro Guevara (piano); Cantata en Trio (vocal ensemble); Kelvin Gutierrez (trumpet); and Raul Orlando Edwards (baritone).
