Messiah!…from the Houston Chamber Choir & ROCO

Saturday evening, December 6th, at St. John the Divine in River Oaks, the Houston Chamber Choir and the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra present Part I of Handel's Messiah (the Christmas part), and Alessandro Scarlatti's Christmas Cantata.  HCC artistic director Robert Simpson came in to talk to St.John Flynn about this Christmas performance by the two ensembles.

The Chamber Choir presents the much-beloved Christmas portion of Handel’s Messiah in collaboration with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra. Complementing Messiah on the program will be Alessandro Scarlatti’s charming Cantata Pastorale per la Nativita for soprano and strings. Handel and Scarlatti are rare and gifted masters of Baroque melody, and, as HCC artistic director explained to St.John Flynn, these works truly capture the peace and promise of the season.

Messiah Soloists
Hannah Celeste Lu, soprano
Lauren Pastorek, mezzo-soprano
Jeffrey Ragsdale, tenor
Samuel Schultz, bass-baritone
