If you’re into making things or tinkering with gadgets, you might not always have access to all the tools and equipment you might need – whether it’s expensive welding equipment or a 3D printer. That’s where the phenomenon of “makerspaces” comes in. Makerspaces are essentially communal workshops where members of the collective share the costs and use of tools and equipment – and teach each other. Artists can even share the space to create works ranging from sculptures to art cars.

Houston Public Media’s Ernie Manouse visited one of Houston’s makerspaces – TX/RX Labs – and asked the group’s Executive Vice President Roland Von Kurnatowski to further explain what a makerspace is…
