Inprint’s Margarett Root Brown Reading Series celebrates National Poetry Month with a program featuring poets, Patricia Smith and Dorianne Laux. This evening at Seven-Thirty at the Alley Theatre, they’ll read samples of their recent work, and then be interviewed on-stage by Houston poet, Martha Serpas, a member of the faculty of the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program. Kana Mimaki plays solo keyboard works by Rachmaninov, Liszt, Chopin, Beethoven and Ravel … in a solo recital, this coming Sunday afternoon at First United Methodist Church. Ms. Mimaki’s concert is a benefit for the Wesley Academy, the culturally-diverse private Christian school that First Methodist operates in the Westchase area. Wordsmyth Theater Company, in cooperation with The Actor’s Gym, presents a staged reading of Brooklyn playwright Philip Kaplan’s comedy-satire, Welcome To San Pesto. The single performance is this evening at 7:00PM at Main Street Theater’s Chelsea Market facility. Kaplan is joined by Director Jon Egging for a conversation about the play with Bob Stevenson.
