Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch previews his newly-choreographed re-staging of one of the classic works of the nineteenth-century dance repertoire, La Bayadére — The Temple Dancer

Houston Ballet continues its 40th Anniversary celebration with the World Première of Artistic Director Stanton Welch‘s new realization of the classic dance-drama, La Bayadère, a love-story set in the exotic world of the Rajah’s palace, royal gardens, and Great Temple of old India. Divas World Productions presents The Elements of Music, the next recital in its Song Salon Series. There’s one performance … Friday night at 8:00PM in the Commons Room of the Honors College at the M. D. Anderson Library, on the central campus of the University of Houston. Dr. John Lienhard, producer and host of KUHF’s “The Engines of Our Ingenuity” will provide commentary. Lienhard, and performers from Divas World Productions join KUHF’s Chris Johnson in the Geary Performance Studio for a preview session.  Listen Download

Andrew Ruthven directed Main Street Theater‘s production of Caryl Churchill’s 2002 drama,  A Number;  Troy Scheid staged its companion piece, Sophie Treadwell’s Machinal, from 1928. There are performances through March 18th at Main Street Theater’s Rice Village playhouse Ruthven and Scheid chat with Bob Stevenson about the production.  Listen Download
