John Caird stage-directed Houston Grand Opera‘s new production of Puccini’s Tosca; the acclaimed soprano, Patricia Racette, is playing the title character, the passionate singer, Floria Tosca, for the first time in her career. Racette and Caird chat with KUHF’s St. John Flynn about the production. Pianist Omar Herrera-Arizmendi, Artist-in-Residence at MECA, Multi-Cultural Education and Counseling for the Arts, — with some help from fellow Moores School of Music graduate-student pianist, Natasha Covrighina — performs some of his favorite keyboard works by Mozart … in a recital underwritten by the Cullen Trust for the Performing Arts. The concert begins at 8:00PM Friday evening at MECA.  Jon Lehrer, the Artistic Director and Choreographer of Buffalo-New-York-based LehrerDance, speaks with KUHF’s Catherine Lu.  LehrerDance is in residence this week at the Jewish Community Center of Houston as part of Dance Month 2010. The company performs this Saturday night at 8:00PM.  LehrerDance also presents four of the seven pieces from Saturday evening’s program on a family-friendly matinee, Sunday at 3:00PM.  Both shows take place in the Kaplan Theatre at the J.C.C.
