The Bayou City’s downtown Theater District is the site of a major premiere tonight, when the Alley Theatre officially opens the second workshop production of Wonderland, a brand-new, tuneful, contemporary up-date of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. We talk with the show’s composer, Frank Wildhorn … lyricist, Jack Murphy … and director, Gregory Boyd, the Alley’s Artistic Director … and we hear some of the songs from Wonderland, performed by members of the original cast…

The Fischer Duo — cellist Norman Fischer and his performing partner and spouse, pianist Jeanne Kierman Fischer — conclude their two-part traversal of the complete Sonatas for Cello and Piano by Beethoven, with a performance this evening at 8:00PM in Duncan Recital Hall at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. Admission is free. They join KUHF’s St. John Flynn in teh Geary Performance Studio for a preview session. Will Donnelly, a Doctoral Candidate in the University of Houston’s Creative Writing Program, reads all of his story, Whole Worlds, on the next Gulf Coast Reading Series event, Friday evening at 7:00PM at the Brazos Bookstore.  Admission is free. The second try-out production of Wonderland, the new musical by Frank Wildhorn, Jack Murphy and Gregory Boyd, premières tonight at 7:30PM at Houston’s Alley Theatre, and continues through Valentine’s Day with evening performances, Tuesdays through Sundays, and afternoon matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Castmembers gathered in the Geary Performance Studio for a preview session hosted by Bob Stevenson.
