Houston Ballet dancers Peter Franc and Elise Judson talk about their debuts in the roles of The Prince and The Sugar-Plum Fairy in this season's production of The Nutcracker. Plus we here from pianist Edith Orloff as she discusses her latest Recording Project with the Pacific Trio…

Elise Judson and Peter Franc will dance the lead roles of The Sugar-Plum Fairy and The Prince, respectively, in the December 12th matinee performance of Houston Ballet‘s 2009 staging of its popular holiday production, The Nutcracker. Ms. Judson will also appear as the little girl, Clara, in four evening performances, during the second half of December. In fact, Houston Ballet will present The Nutcracker 35  times between this coming Friday evening and Sunday, December 27th, at downtown Houston’s Wortham Center. Houston and San-Diego-based pianist Edith Orloff, speaks with KUHF’s Catherine Lu. The new CD featuring Piano Trios by 20th Century American composers, George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland and Robert Muczynski — performed by Ms. Orloff’s ensemble, the Pacific Trio — is available on the German label, Marsyas Records, distributed in the United States by Allegro Music. Listen Download

Liz Cascio plays Lala in Main Street Theater‘s new production of Alfred Uhry’s 1997 Tony-Award-winning play, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, which was stage-directed by Steve Garfinkel. There are evening performances, Thursdays through Saturdays and 3:00PM Sunday matinees through December 20th. All performances take place in Main Street’s Rice Village playhouse on Times Boulevard.
