New York University faculty pianist Marilyn Nonken sits down at the KUHF Steinway to perform music from Modern Virtuosos, her tandem recital with violinist Jennifer Koh and saxophonist Valerie Vidal, to be presented this evening at the Menil Collection by Da Camera of Houston! This evening at 7:30PM at the Menil Collection, Da Camera of Houston presents Three Modern Virtuosos. Our guest, pianist Marilyn Nonken, Artistic Director of the New-York-based contemporary-music group, Ensemble 21, performs the regional première of Four Seasons (after Cy Twombly), a new work by Australian composer, Liza Lim. Violinist Jennifer Koh plays solo works by Kaija Saariaho, Elliott Carter, and Esa-Pekka Salonen … and Moores School of Music faculty artist, Valerie Vidal, plays the piece from Luciano Berio’s Sequenza series written for alto saxophone. Nonken sits down at the KUHF Steinway to play excerpts from her portion of the program. Masquerade Theatre presents its Houston première production of the musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. There are performances, Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00PM, and Sunday afternoons at 2:00PM, this weekend and next, in Zilkha Hall at downtown Houston’s Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Castmembers from the production gather in the Geary Performance Studio for a preview session hosted by KUHF’s Bob Stevenson. Listen Download
