Today, concert pianist and Houston native, Richard Dowling, sits down at the KUHF Steinway Grand to perform selections from the recital he'll present Friday night with cellist Evan Drachman, who happens to be the grandson of legendary cellist, Gregor Piatigorsky. We also preview this weekend's Bayou City Art Festival Downtown, as we chat with one of the participating artists and Jerome Vielman of the Houston Arts Alliance, who tells us about some of the local music and dance ensembles that will be performing on the Festival stage…

Catherine Lu hosts a session from KUHF’s Geary Performance Studio with Houston-born concert pianist, Richard Dowling, owner-proprietor of Dowling Music.  Bay Area Music Teachers and the Gulf Coast Music Association presents Richard Dowling in concert, together with his frequent performing and recording partner, cellist Evan Drachman, grandson and musical heir of the celebrated 20th-century cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. Mr. Drachman is the founder and Artistic Director of The Piatigorsky Foundation. Their recital is this Friday evening at 7:30PM at Clear Lake Presbyterian Church. At ceremonies to be held tonight here in the Bayou City, Los-Angeles-based media artist, Doug Aitken, will be named the winner of the ninth annual Aurora Award for achievement in the media arts, presented by Houston’s micro-cinema, the Aurora Picture Show. Mr. Aitken’s works, Sleepwalkers and Migration, will be screened for the first time in Houston at the Awards Ceremony. He chats with KUHF’s St. John Flynn about his work and the award. The Art Colony Association presents the Fall, 2009, edition of its semi-annual Bayou City Art Festival, this Saturday and Sunday from 10:00AM to 6:00PM, in downtown Houston’s City Hall Park, Hermann Square, San Houston Park, the Library Plaza. Kirk Mullenax is one of the presenting artists and Jerome Vielman is the Program and Services Manager for the Houston Arts Alliance who have organized the various performances that will take place.
