Today, we hear excerpts from works by Rice University composer, Pierre Jalbert, who chats about two new recordings that feature his music: The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra's 40th Anniversary Compact Disc, and an album by the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, called Against the Emptiness

Carolyn Houston Boone, Associate Professor of Acting and Directing at the University of Houston’s School of Theatre and Dance, directs this year’s Houston Shakespeare Festival production of Pericles, Prince of Tyre, an early 17th Century adventure-romance by George Wilkins and William Shakespeare. Actor Guy Roberts appears in the title role. There are four performances, August 1st, 5th, 7th and 9th at 8:30 PM at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. Boone and Roberts chat about the production with St.John Flynn. Listen Download

Pierre Jalbert is Associate Professor of Composition and Theory at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra’s 40th Anniversary Album, featuring Professor Jalbert’s Chamber Symphony is available on the admittedly obscure, LA-based label, Yarlung Archival Recordings. The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble’s C-D, Against the Emptiness, which includes Pierre Jalbert’s work, Visual Abstract, is released by New Dynamic Records. Both are available from the on-line music retailer, C-D-BABY-DOT-COM.
