Helen Currier is the Assistant Director of the Renal/Pheresis Team at Texas Children’s Hospital. She oversees the program which engages young TCH kidney dialysis patients in creative-arts activities, including the project, administered in collaboration with Writers in the Schools, that encourages the kids to write poetry. Dr. Currier also made the contact with the Houston Boychoir and its Artistic Director, Carole Nelson, which led to the commissioning of three area composers — including the Moores School of Music’s Robert Nelson — to set some of the TCH patients’ poems to music. The Houston Boychoir premières those pieces — Robert Nelson’s settings, plus those by Dan Sedgwick and Brad Sayles — on its Spring concert … this Sunday afternoon at 4:00PM in the Moores Opera House on the University of Houston’s central campus. Robert and Carole Nelson and Helen Currier gather in the KUHF Talk Studio for a conversation with TFR contributor Chris Johnson. Listen. Download.
